Bill Chiaravalle is coauthor of Branding for Dummies and has spent more than two decades specializing in brand strategy, design and marketing for a broad range of global, national and regional companies in an extensive range of industries. While many marketing and advertising agencies include branding within their list of services, branding is the core of Brand Navigation’s business and has been the focus of Bill’s 25-year career.
Bill’s branding experience spans more than two decades including the direct creation of hundreds of brand identity programs. His background involved serving at Landor Associates (a world-renowned agency and pioneer in brand strategy and design), as Senior Designer, Design Director and Creative Director over a span of eleven years. While at Landor, Bill worked on branding programs for companies such as the Audubon Society, American Express, AT&T, Bacardi, Bell Atlantic, California State Lottery, Danone, Delta Airlines, FedEx, Four Seasons Hotels, Gatorade, Hyatt Hotels, IBM, Microsoft, Motorola, NEC, P&G, Radio Shack, San Francisco Zoo, Smucker’s, Sunkist, Trinchero Winery, Tropicana, United Airlines, University of California, and more.
Upon founding Brand Navigation, Bill has continued to expand his experience among a diverse range of clients including the Annenberg Foundation, the Annenberg Space for Photography, BendBroadband, Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, North Carolina, Descartes Logistics Technologies, El Paso Museum, Ghirardelli, Hartmann Luggage, the Housing Authority of Portland, Hubbell Lighting & Solutions Center, Intel, John Maxwell, the Justice Conference, Krusteaz, Microsoft, Linfield College, Mount Angel Abbey, National Geographic, Sunpower, Sunnylands, Thomas Nelson Publishers, University of South Carolina Upstate, Washington State History Museum, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Willamette Dental Group, World Relief and more.
Bill was born in San Francisco and grew up in the California Bay Area. He received his education in design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and mentored under renowned designers Michael Manwaring, Bruce Burdick, and Michael Cronan before joining Landor Associates. He subsequently founded Brand Navigation in 1999.
Bill has received numerous branding and industry awards from organizations including AIGA, American Advertising Federation, Dupont International Packaging Design Awards, Logo Lounge, Print Magazine, and the San Francisco Art Director’s Club.
As Brand Strategist and Executive Creative Director at Brand Navigation, Bill is responsible for directing and managing the overall strategic and creative process of every Brand Navigation project. Working closely with clients and his team, he directs and oversees every aspect to ensure clarity, consistency and excellence.
In his spare time, Bill enjoys traveling and fine dining with his wife Leila, swimming, jazz music, and visiting his four children spread over the states of California and Oregon.
